Shameful

12 Libraries, 3 leisure centres, 2museums and a theatre all face the axe if Labour and the Lib Dem council have their way. The report outlining the plans will be considered in cabinet tomorrow night.

Facing closure is Hoylake Library, Pensby Library, Irby Library and Upton library as well as the Woodchurch Leisure Centre. This would be disastrous for the people of Wirral West. These closures are unthinkable and for many unacceptable.

Earlier on in the year I heard rumours about the possibility of Hoylake library and Upton library closing and when I, and my  fellow Conservative Councillors, raised our concerns  we were told we were ’scaremongering’ and that ‘we had our facts wrong’ - well we were far from wrong and now we will have to fight  to try to prevent these closures happening.

Despite the weather the Conservative Action Team was out in force over the weekend - over 40 people came out to help.

Above some of the team drying off and enjoying hot cups of tea and bacon butties! In the centre Jacqui Foster our MEP candidate.

18 School crossings are facing the axe across Wirral in an attempt to plug a growing budget deficit of £23 million. The saving achieved will amount to £50 000.

Tom Anderson, Conservative Councillor for Upton, along with myself, have organised a petition against these cuts – so too have fellow Conservatives across Wirral, Jeff Clarke in Wirral South and Leah Fraser in Wallasey.

Parents of children attending St Michaels and All Angels School on Woodchurch expressed their disgust at their local lollypop man facing the axe. Local parent, Mrs Dempsy of Crewe Green, said, ‘ I’m outraged! Our schools is on a bend with no other crossing facilities with buses and coaches going to the nearby high schools – how are small children supposed to see? What about our children’s safety?’ What is the cost of a child’s Life?’

Getting rid of these crossings is highly irresponsible, 130 children have been killed or seriously injured on Wirral – we need more crossings not less. That’s why we’re campaigning with parents and schools across Wirral to make the Council sit up and listen that they will not get away with playing with children’s safety for the sake of £50,000.

Local residents in Wirral met to protest over proposed plans to use a local beauty spot into a landfill site.

Wendy Clements, local Conservative campaigner and I called the meeting after having been inundated with calls and emails from local residents concerned and angered by the proposal.

Wendy and I are now actively fighting this proposal – should you want any further information either email me directly or call the office on 0151 632 1052

Remembrance Sunday Service, Grange Hill, West Kirby.

We all gathered ar about 10.30 on the Hill – waiting the service to start at 10.45 and for the minute’s silence at 11.

The heavens opened and the winds blew as we sang our hymns and bent our heads in prayer. Neither the wind nor the rain could keep the crowds away as hundrends turned up to pay their respects to those who had so valiantly and selflessly fought for us and the freedom of our country. Glod Bless the brave,  they’ll always be remembered in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Election slide 1

David Cameron has described Barack Obama’s election as the next President of the United States as “an important moment not just for America but for the world”.
David said, “In these difficult times people everywhere are crying out for change. Barack Obama is the first of a new generation of leaders who will deliver it – he has my whole-hearted congratulations.”

And he added, “Barack Obama’s victory will give people a new opportunity to look at the United States and see her for what I believe she is – a beacon of opportunity, freedom and democracy.”

On a personal note, I had the pleasure to meet Barack last year, and I wrote about that meeting on this blog, ending with the words ‘I felt this man had something unique and important to offer to the world and I do hope he gets the chance to deliver it’. He has now, resoundingly, been given that chance.

He captured the imagination of a nation which reached out and seized the opportunity for change.
