The legendary Liverpool band China Crisis rocked Hoylake when they performed at Jack Rabbit Slims.
The occasion was a fundraising event organised by The Friends of Meols Park who are striving to provide a better playground in Meols for the local children.

Roy Shuttleworth secretary of The ‘Friends’ and who organised the night, said  “It was by far the best music event to hit Hoylake and I will be forever grateful to Gary and Eddie for coming along to support our cause.”
As chairman of the ‘Friends’ I compered the evening and what an evening it turned out to be. Formby comedian Brendan Riley got everyone in the mood with his comedy set. Local Meols DJ Steve provided the music in between acts and Rachel Wright kicked the night off with an accoustic set.

After the disgraceful vote and decision to close our libraries and facilities I have been inundated with calls, emails and letters from devastated residents – My message is quite clear – The fight continues – we will work together to try to rectify the wrong that has been done to the people of Wirral.

The Secretary of State  Andy Burnham has it within his power to call this decision in and we must press him to do just that. Through Ed Vaizey Shadow Minister for Libraries I have written to him and I’d implore everyone to do the same.

The Good People of Wirral need to stick together and make those in charge listen.

In some areas more people voted to save the local libraries than voted in the local elections.

So elected representatives who voted for these closures must think again.  The people of Wirral have told you and are still telling you quite simply they want local facilities, in local areas, for the local residents.

To continue the Fight to save our Libraries – email me or call me and together let’s see what we can do to reverse these ridiculous cuts.

Above : Shadow Minister for Libraries Ed Vaizey speaks to nearly 100 library users in Hoylake Library

Friday  Ed Vaizey MP - Shadow Minister for Libraries came to Hoylake Library to meet with library user groups and the ‘friends of’ many of the libaries from across Wirral West. Ed Vaizey submitted an Early Day Motion on behalf of the people of Wirral to garnish support and raise awareness in Parliament about these poorly considered and poorly justified closures. He has also written to the Secretary of State, Andy Burnham, requesting he calls this decision in (as of Friday Ed still hadn’t received a reply).  Also, it is interesting to note that none of the 4 Wirral Labour MP’s have signed this early day motion – so despite their protestations they truly are linked with this Labour/Lib Dem  council decision to close the libraries.

Saturday – literally hundreds of local residents came to meet their elected  Liberal Democrat councillors to ask them to reconsider their decision to close Irby Library.  All 3 Li Dem councillors remained adamant they were going to vote for the closure.

The number of people and the mix of people wanting to keep the library open was vast, from young children to mums and dads, grandparents, teenagers and local business owners all saying ‘Don’t close our Library’  and yet despite this unanimous support from the people of Irby, the 3 local councillors decided they knew better and would continue with their decision to vote for it to be closed.

My only hope is that they sleep on this matter,  mull  it over all weekend, so that by Monday they come to their senses and vote against these closures.  30,000 people across Wirral have signed petitions to keep their local libraries and community facilities open. Officers and councillors listen to your people and do the right thing on Monday night. Trust me 30,000 people can’t be wrong.

The Council will be voting on this matter this coming Monday 6.15 Wallasey Town Hall.  See you all there.
